People who have married a narcissist were often fooled by the charm of the narcissist who said exactly what they wanted to hear. Soon after the marriage, however, things began to change. If your marriage is exhausting and confusing, you might be married to a narcissist. Here are some red flags to watch for. A narcissist may:
- Make everything about themselves
- Be charming
- Use words that make others feel special even when they don’t know them well
- Create drama
- Cross boundaries
- Put pressure on others to do things they don’t want to do
- Not hear the word “no”
- Lie
- Cheat
- Criticize often
- Use the empathy of others to guilt-trip them
- Call others insulting names
- Shift the blame to others when they have done something wrong
- Minimize and rationalize poor behavior
- Avoid taking responsibility for poor behavior
- Have an addiction
- Lack empathy
- Take advantage of others
